10th September 2020

It has been a real pleasure to welcome back all our children throughout the course of this first week of term.

Thank you for your support at the start of this new school year as we embed and adjust to the new systems in and around school. Children across the school are adapting successfully to the new procedures and relishing the opportunity to re-join the school community and to continue their learning.

It has been a busy week that has enabled us to review and learn from the new processes in place. I am writing to update you on some of the systems and to ask for your support.

End of the school day

At the end of the school day children are directed to exit the building in year group bubbles. Once off the school premises and as children walk home, are picked up in cars or catch a school/service bus, they will leave their ‘bubbles’. Please ensure face coverings are worn on public and school transport.

If you are collecting your child, please continue to support school by ensuring that you are on time for drop off and pick up of children and that you move away from the site as soon as possible to help with social distancing.

Collecting from the Secondary car park has the usual restrictions in place. Please ensure that you park sensibly and responsibly. It would be especially helpful at this time if you could park your car a short distance away from Carr Manor Road to reduce traffic congestion and to help ensure that we can exit the pupils safely and swiftly.

Please may I stress that when waiting to collect pupils at both phases, please maintain social distancing at all times.

Parent Pay

To facilitate the aim of no cash on site, we would request that you set up a Parent Pay account with which you can add funds to enable your child to purchase food and drink as well as pay for additional school items. If you are unclear as to how to set up a ParentPay account or would like some support with this, please contact either phase school office directly.

Free School Meals

We appreciate how difficult the last few months may have been for many of our families. If your circumstances have changed and you are unsure if you are eligible for Free School Meals, please note you can claim for any child who normally lives with you and who is classed as being under your parental care. To receive Free School Meals, you must receive one of the following benefits:

  • Universal Credit (and your net combined household income is less than £7,400 a year after tax)
  • Income Support, Pension Guarantee Credit, Income-based Job Seekers Allowance
  • Income-related Employment Support Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit only (with no Working Tax Credit) and your Annual Taxable Income does not exceed £16,190

Please visit https://www.gov.uk/apply-free-school-meals for further information or alternatively if you are still unsure, please do not hesitate to contact the Primary or Secondary office who will be happy to support you.

Face coverings

Staff may wear visors at times when working with pupils for example teaching and coaching. This is to allow staff to work as effectively and safely as possible with children. Additionally, staff may wear face masks when moving around the school and in communal areas.

In line with Government guidance, staff will not wear masks when working with children. We are fortunate that our school site facilitates specific areas for each year group and that we continue to offer our pupils a broad and balanced curriculum whilst adhering to all current COVID measures.

Class Coaching

Your child will have now joined a new ‘class coaching’ group year (in year groups). These groups will meet at the time when the usual coaching groups would meet, Monday first period, Wednesday and Friday last period in the Secondary Phase and first thing each day in the Primary Phase. Class coaching will provide time for children to build relationships and receive peer and staff support.

We are maintaining your child’s usual coaching group (across year groups) as well and they will meet socially distanced once a fortnight in both the Primary and Secondary Phase. Your child’s coach will be in contact in the coming weeks to maintain contact with you and arrange an appointment for our Meet Your Coach Day in October. Should you have any questions and queries, please contact your child’s usual coach.

We anticipate there may be further changes and developments to share with you over the coming days, weeks and months.

Thank you for your ongoing support,

Lucie Lakin
