The ‘Welcome Back to Leeds’ Project

A big congratulations goes to Rumani T in Year 7 for being shortlisted as one of the top 10 entries in the 'Welcome Back to Leeds' project.

Entrants were asked to get creative and design an advert that welcomes people back into the city of Leeds when lockdown is lifted.

Rumani's entry was vibrant and eye-catching, and the judges were very impressed as they stated it was the entry that "had them talking for the longest time."

To be shortlisted into the final 10 is a fantastic achievement and we're very proud of Rumani for getting involved.

Arooj Creative Writing Competition

A massive congratulations to Evelyn K ,Year 2, and Martha P, Year 4, who are both winners of the children's Arooj Creative Writing competition!

The competition asked entrants to write a short story or poem based on the topic of 'My Magical Power.' Both girls entered their writing into the competition: Evelyn in the poetry section and Martha in the short story category.

Earlier this year we found out they had been shortlisted to attend the awards ceremoney in March, but unfortunately this had to be cancelled.

However, the girls have since been announced as winners in their categories! Along with seven other school winners, their writing will be published in a book which we will be able to put in our school library, and which will also be placed in local libraries.

Out of the seven school winners, we are the only school to have two winners which is an amazing achievement.

Another award ceremony is being arranged for January which we are sure the girls are really excited to attend.

Year 5 Pupil Wins Writing Competition

Abigail M in Year 5 won a writing competition in association with Hew Ma, a freelance illustrator, designer and artist who has some of her work displayed here in Leeds.

The brief was to write a short story based on an illustration provided by Hew Ma. As well as being chosen as the winning story, when submitted, Abigail's story was also chosen as 'entry of the day'.

For her prize, Abigail will receive original, hand-drawn illustrations from Hew Ma herself.

This is a fantastic achievement for Abigail, so well done!

You can read Abigail's short story on page 14 of the Coaching Chronicle At Home Issue 6.

Year 10 Pupil’s Oil Painting Success

Our Year 10 pupil Eoghan T produced a fantastic oil painting during his time at home.

He took inspiration from a photograph of his aunt and her colleague whilst they were at work in the NHS Waterside Hospital in Derry City, Northern Ireland. He then re-created the iconic image of the two women as an oil painting.

The two women in the photo are Deirdre Rigney, Eoghan’s aunt, and her colleague Marian Ward. They are dressed in their full scrubs on a COVD-19 ward in the middle of the pandemic.

Below you can see the original photo that Eoghan used for his inspiration. His talents were also picked up by the Yorkshire Evening Post and Leeds for Learning.

Sisters create bracelets to raise funds for NHS

Our Year 7 pupil Esmee, and her younger sister, have been getting crafty at home and created bracelets to raise funds for the NHS.

The girls created these bracelets with a 'donate-what-you-can' jar at the end of their drive, in a bid to raise £50 for the NHS. They have now raised over £300 which is absolutely fantastic and we're so proud of their efforts!

Their resilience, independence and motivation is outstanding and we love hearing about the community spirit of those who donated!

Their efforts have even been recognised in the Yorkshire Evening Post. You can read the full article by clicking here.
