Battlefields Tour

Carr Manor Community School was represented on a government funded Battlefields Tour of France and Belgium by Battlefields Tour two of our Year 11 pupils. Pupils saw the sacrifices made by British and Commonwealth troops during the first World War and discovered the importance of remembrance first hand.

They laid a wreath at Menin Gate Memorial to honour the missing at Ypres, visited Thiepval Memorial on the Somme battlefield and went to Tyne Cot, the largest British cemetery in the world. They were excellent representatives for Carr Manor and showed great empathy and resilience throughout the trip.

Tall Ships Voyage

Ten of our Year 11 pupils embarked on the Tall Ships Voyage of Achievement, a unique sailing experience which challenged pupils both physically and mentally, but equipped them with some long term life skills including team work, confidence and problem solving skills.

Pupils were fully involved in running the ship and working alongside the crew with duties such as navigation, chart reading and helping to maintain the vessel.
Here are some of their highlights from the voyage:

“My favourite part was sailing the boat at night. It was a very unique experience and it helped me build my confidence as I worked with pupils from different schools.”

“I had a really good experience and enjoyed climbing the mast. I loved sailing up the River Thames and seeing the Tower Bridge opening up to let our boat through.”

“I made lots of friends and the trip challenged me as a person, but I pushed through and really enjoyed my time there.”

Sports Awards 2018

We held our 2018 Sports Awards on Friday 28th September where pupils were rewarded for their commitment to sport throughout the last academic year.

Matty Lee, ex Carr Manor Community School pupil turned British Diver, and Gordon Benson, professional British triathlete, were guests at the ceremony.

Pupils were acknowledged for their participation in a variety of sports, including table tennis, rugby, basketball and netball, as well as some external sporting achievements being recognised.

Esme and Travis were crowned Sports Personalities Of The Year, as voted for by the rest of the pupils in the ceremony.

Congratulations to all those invited to the ceremony. We look forward to another successful year in sport!

Bremner Charity Week

Bremner House have been raising money for their chosen charity, Leeds North and West Foodbank.

Pupils organised bake sales, basketball shoot-outs, quizzes and sporting events to help them fundraise. So far, Bremner House have raised a fantastic £448 for the charity!

Everyone in Bremner House should be proud of their achievements and we know the charity will be very appreciative of our donation.
