Some very special guests have helped pupils at Carr Manor Community School celebrate their achievement in sport.

Thai boxing champion Rachael MacKenzie and the school’s own Matty Lee were invited to the school for its annual Sports Presentation Afternoon where awards are given to pupils who have excelled in sports.  Matty Lee, a former pupil at Carr Manor Community School, recently celebrated his own achievement at the first European Games in Baku, where he won a gold medal for diving.

The VIPs, on hand to celebrate the fantastic achievement and dedication of Carr Manor Community School pupils, were impressed with their success and left messages of congratulation and support.

Rachael MacKenzie said: “It was great to see the range of sports and dedication from staff and inspirational students; what a fantastic celebration of the power of sport.”

Matty Lee said: “I wouldn’t be where I am today sporting-wise without the great help and full support Carr Manor gave me over the years. It will always be a pleasure to come back and support the school in any way I can.”

Awards included netball, rounders, cycling, athletics, rugby and American football, but pupils were also rewarded for breaking records, a special commitment to sport and being Sports Person of the Year.

With trophies, medals and certificates to mark their success, they realise the importance of sport and the character for learning attributes, such as resilience and teamwork that it promotes.

Team Manager of PE Nici Walker said: “It is really important to us here at Carr Manor that we celebrate the achievements that our pupils have had in sport.

“They have been committed to their clubs and teams and many have shown great character across a variety of different sports.”

“I am really proud to represent a department that has worked with so many talented and resilient young people.”
