Our debating club attended a debating competition on Wednesday 1st February. The pupils who were debating were also joined by other pupils who were there to offer their support and cheer on Carr Manor Community School.
This was our first entry to the debating competition, and we were up against Allerton High, who have been debating since the competition started.
One group had to argue against the proposition that 'corporate sponsorship is good for the arts.' They faced some tough questions from the judges but responded really well.
The second group were arguing in favour of using performance enhancing drugs in sport. They gave a very strong performance and the debate was described as 'the best debate seen in years' by the organisers, which was fantastic feedback for our first ever competition.
The end result was very close - with each team winning one debate. It was decided that Allerton High were the overall winners, but our team were described as 'outstanding' for first time debaters so a massive congratulations to the pupils involved.
We are hoping to go back next year and bring home the victory to Carr Manor.
