Primary Phase Summer Fete

Our summer fete was held on Friday 7th July in the Primary Phase. It was a fabulous seaside themed afternoon and a wonderful community event for families and friends, current and new.

There were some fabulous food stalls, a bouncy castle, paddling pools, sand pits, face painting stalls and even some sponsored donkeys! It was lovely to see so many of our incoming reception families attend and there was a real community feel to the event.

Duke of Edinburgh

A big congratulations to pupils who completed their Duke of Edinburgh on the weekend 8th July.

Everyone involved passed with flying colours!
All participants displayed outstanding teamwork and resilience to complete the 18 miles over two days in the gruelling heat.
This included pupils carrying all their own gear, tents and food to be self sustainable throughout the weekend. It's a tough challenge to complete and deserves a big well done all round.

Houses of Parliament Trip

20 pupils travelled down to London on 3rd July to visit the Houses of Parliament.

As part of the day pupils had a tour, including visiting the House of Commons and House of Lords. They also had a question and answer session with Richard Burgon MP (Labour MP for Leeds East). Pupils asked Richard a range of questions including; what an MP does, his views on topical issues such as Nurses pay and what he thinks of Jeremy Corbyn as Labour leader.

Pupils returned to Carr Manor with lots of good memories and a taste of what it is like to work in politics.

Primary Aspirations Day

The Primary Phase had a Career Aspirations Day where they interviewed adults and learnt about the different types of careers they can go into when they’re older.

They had the opportunity to speak to an author, bank manager, boxer and even some PE teachers from the Secondary Phase. Pupils asked them about what career paths they took to get to the jobs they’re in today.

There were even special visits from two vets, PC Karen Kear and the local fire engine! Pupils loved spraying the hose pipe and sitting in the front seat of the fire engine!

Well done to all pupils involved for their mature questions and inquisitive nature!

Year 11 Prom

Year 11’s all came together for their prom night on Tuesday 27th June. It was a night of celebrating successes, reminiscing about their 5 years at Carr Manor Community School and reuniting after their GCSE exams.

Pupils got dressed up for the occasion which was held at the Hilton Hotel in Leeds. There were staff and pupil awards on the night, plus some special surprises to make the evening as memorable as possible. Thank you to all staff who were involved in making it such a special night and we hope the Year 11’s had a brilliant time!

#OneWorld Displays

A Year 8 class have created some very thoughtful displays in reflection of the Manchester and London attacks, and other tragedies around the world.

Pupils have created messages of unity to show people we are #oneworld and reflected on what they are thankful for. The pupils work is incredibly inspiring and is on display in one of the Humanities classrooms.

Year 11 Stand Down

On Friday 26th May, the Year 11 pupils were 'stood down' from school after sitting their GCSE English Exam.

Pupils had an assembly after their exam, before being surprised with the fact they were being stood down.

The Year 11's were given leavers t-shirts which they then got signed by fellow pupils and staff members. It was a great chance to get photos of pupils in their t-shirts as good luck messages were being passed around.

There was a lovely, yet emotional, atmosphere on the day as pupils said goodbye to staff.

Although pupils will still be coming in for their GCSE's, that was the last time they will all be together before their prom in June.

Food Department Donations

The Carr Manor Community School Food Department are really interested in any donations of kitchen equipment e.g. hand blenders, pasta makers and anything else that you may be able to donate.

With the new GCSE Food Preparation & nutrition upcoming, any of the above items would really be appreciated by the pupils.

If you have any of the above items or any other items that you think could be of use, please contact us on 0113 3368400.

Thank you

Leeds Rhinos Coaching

Yorkshire Carnegie coached our Year 7 and 8 girls at their training facility, Headingley Carnegie Stadium, on Friday 5th May. The girls then had the opportunity to play on the match during half time of the Yorkshire Carnegie and Ealing Trailfinders match.

It was brilliant to see the girls showing off their skills on the pitch, and the pupils were a credit to Carr Manor Community School.

Carr Manor Dash 2017

A massive congratulations to Robinson House who were the overall Carr Manor Dash winners of 2017!

Bremner House, who weren't able to hold onto their title from last year, came 2nd, whilst Tomlinson came 3rd and Trueman took 4th place.

To compete in the Dash, pupils took part in time trials in their PE lessons and the fastest pupils qualified to race around school.

There were four races in total, KS3 girls and boys races and KS4 girls and KS4 boys races.

The best times from each race were then totaled up and the overall winner, in this case Robinson House, was decided.

Those who weren't running created banners in Coaching+ lessons to cheer on and encourage their House representatives. It was lovely to see how much effort had been put into the banners and how much support pupils had for those running.

A big well done to all those involved and it was a brilliant afternoon of sportsmanship!
